Set during Japan’s Edo period, the story follows Jinta, a wandering orphan who, along with his younger sister Suzune, is raised by a shrine maiden named Itskihime in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta embarks on a dangerous mission to defeat a mysterious demon who warns him of a looming Demon God threat. This sets the stage for an epic journey through time, spanning from the Edo to the Heisei periods, as Jinta struggles with his role as a demon hunter and the burden of wielding a sword.
Adapted from Motoo Nakanishi’s light novel and manga series, Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is a captivating supernatural tale. The 14-volume light novel series is published by Futabasha, while the manga, which began in September 2021, is illustrated by Yū Satomi and published under Futabasha’s Action Comics label. Both the manga and light novel are available in English from Seven Seas Entertainment.
The anime adaptation is directed by Kazuya Aiura, with writing by Deko Akao, character design by Taro Ikegami, and production by Yokohama Animation Laboratory. The series stars Taku Yashiro as Jinta, Reina Ueda as Suzune, and Saori Hayami as Shirayuki.
